Overview

After receiving a Bachelor and Masters degree in clinical optometry at the University of Melbourne, I completed a PhD on the molecular development of vasculature in the primate retina at the Australian National University. Following my PhD I received a NHMRC CJ Martin fellowship that support my postdoctoral position at the Institut de la Vision in Paris, where I investigated the role of guidance factors in the formation and evolution of commissural neurons within the mammalian brain. My current research at the Queensland Brain Institute focuses on the development and evolution of commissural neurons within the mammalian nervous system. In particular, I am interested in the regulatory mechanisms that control the specification and arealisation of these neurons, and the molecular signalling that underlies these processes. I am also interested in understanding how changes in transcription regulatory processes have contributed to the evolution of commissural tracts in mammals.
