Isaac A. Thangasamy MBBS FRACS (Urol)

Isaac is a urological surgeon with a subspecialty interest in urological cancers of the kidney, bladder and prostate. He also enjoys treating patients with urinary stone disease, bladder dysfunction, prostate conditions and other general urological conditions. After completing his undergraduate medical degree at University of New South Wales, Isaac spent two years as a junior doctor in the northern suburbs of Sydney. Following this, he commenced specialty urology training in Queensland. During this period, he began teaching medical students and is now senior lecturer at the University of Queensland. He also enjoys engaging in the University's state-of-the-art mentorship program. After five years in Queensland, Isaac returned to Sydney to complete his final year of specialty urology training at Nepean Hospital where he developed his robotic surgical skills further. This was followed by a uro-oncology surgery fellowship at the esteemed Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne. Upon completion, he returned to Queensland to take up a position as Director of Urology at Ipswich Hospital, West Moreton Health.

Isaac has a keen interest in surgical education and clinical research. He is currently completing a Doctor of Clinical Surgery through The University of Sydney. His thesis on clinician-related barriers to active surveillance for men with low risk prostate cancer is partially funded by a Movember Quality Improvement research grant.
